DIY Felt Flower Headbands for Christmas

Hello...It's been awhile hasn't it? Forgive me, I've been a little busy.

With Halloween over & Christmas fast approaching, I was wondering what handmade goodness I could give this year. I found something perfect.
I really want to share it with you.

Ready?

Felt Flower Headbands
I made a tutorial for you! Excited to share this with you tonight.

First, you need your supplies & a nice clean work area.

Supplies:
*Headbands
*Alligator Clips
*Brooch Clips
*Felt in different colors
*Sharp Scissors
*Hot Glue Gun
*Ribbon
*Disappearing Ink Fabric Marker
*Several circular items, such as CD's & jars.
Make sure to grab items that have different size circle bases, so you can make small, medium, & large flowers.

(I purchased all my supplies at the dollar store so that I could play around with the flowers)

The first step is to start tracing circles using your disappearing ink fabric marker. I purchased my marker from Walmart (oh the dreaded store, I won't get into that right now though) and it worked perfectly.

Cut out your circles

Next, make a spiral out of your circle all the way to the end so that you get a small felt circle from the middle. Save this small circle, you'll need it for later.

Beginning from the outside of your circle, where you made your first cut for the spiral, roll your felt as shown in the picture. You will roll the flower all the way to the end and then use your hot glue gun to glue the tip.

Tip: Roll the felt a little bit, then use your glue gun to secure the roll, then roll again, then glue & so on.  I found that only gluing when you get to the end could allow the flower to fall apart. Using glue throughout the process will reinforce that your flower stays together.

Finished flowers with endless possibilities for craft projects.

Using your glue gun, glue each finished flower to your headband. Hold your flower in place until the glue cools.

The small circles that you get at the end of your spirals can be glued onto the back of your flowers as shown above. This gives them a nice, steady base so they stay securely fastened to the headband.

This is another version of one of the headbands I made. I kind of went felt flower crazy once I learned how easy it was to make these. One tip I have for you is to make sure you cut your spiral straight. As you can see in the large flower turquoise flower above (on the far right) there is a tiny piece sticking up. This is an easy fix, as you can trim it with your scissors, even after gluing it onto the headband.

Cream & brown, this is one of my favorites.

In this version, I glued the ric rac trim onto the headbands using the glue gun. I love the pretty vintage effect it gave them.

Brooches. I love the red one, as it reminds of the poppy for Remembrance Day. These little brooches can be added to a scarf, a hat, a dress or anything else you can think of.

I glued these flowers onto the alligator clips. I did not have any fabric to first apply to the clip, but it still turned out okay.

This cute project sparked some other ideas for me...how about using them and redoing a lamp shade? And, I now know how to make this beautiful wreath that my daughter wants for her room  ;-)

If you have any questions please feel free to ask & let me know how your own project is going. Have fun stuffing stockings with these.

Have a wonderful evening:
